While out and about have you ever seen a small child in a stroller or grocery cart? This would be one that isn't plugged into the vice of the electronic pacifier.
Their eyes are wide open with intrigue... as if to process all the lights and sounds like one would drink from a fire hose, but do so without being overwhelmed. The light in their spirit can be intoxicatingly-hypnotic.
While out and about have you ever seen an old weathered salty ass older person? This would be one whose face is stuck upside down who demands that you move to the other side of the aisle, out of there way, all while not saying a word. As if the twitch in their beady eyes and crunched face says it all.
Their eyes are closed tight as if to match the pressed lips of their mouth, much like someone holding on to a bitter taste. Their persona almost has an unpleasant smell to it as if their aura has a tang of unpleasantness.
Have you ever been in another state and needed to go to the grocery store? The drive there is fresh and new. Different things going on than what you're used to. Getting there is exciting while mildly stressful on where to go. Nonetheless you're patient, open to suggestions, and kinda have to go with the flow.
Once inside, you see they carry the same foods you're familiar with, but the space feels different. Hell, even using the bathroom feels like an experience. Like a small child you're wide eye'd and intrigued by everything.
Have you ever been in another state and while at the grocery store you pass all the locals? While trying to figure out where the hell the ketchup is, the locals are flying past you on the grind. They have places to be and you're in the way. The habit of shopping has become a chore for them.
The ketchup is right here! What are you new?!
They don't have to say these words, but you feel like that's how they looked at you while you were lost in wonder.
I have a point to all of this:
The true journey of life is not about how far you go, but how deeply you appreciate where you already are. A local who lives like a tourist understands that the ordinary day, the same street, or a routine errand can be a voyage of discovery. When we choose to see the familiar with a traveler’s curiosity, even the smallest details become new again, and life regains its glow.
Like a child in the stroller, choose to be a tourist in your own life and reclaim the feeling of wonder, to pause and notice the magic hidden in the everyday. Practicing this daily allows one to savor life, which means carrying that same appreciation wherever we stand.
I promise you this: if you do this regularly, life will start to feel less like a series of tasks and more like an unfolding adventure. You'll find beauty in the still moments, wonder in the routine, and a sense of peace in the present. You'll discover that the world, even at its busiest, is full of hidden treasures—if only you choose to see them.
Have a grateful Friday my good buddy! :)
